Project Introduction
Tether (USDT) is a digital currency, the value of which always corresponds to the value of the US dollar. Tether was launched in 2014. The idea was to create a stable cryptocurrency that could be used as a digital dollar or "stable coin". Tether is tied to the price of the US dollar.

Initially, Tether used the Osi Layer transport protocol of the Bitcoin network, but now it is also available as an ERC20 token on Ethereum. In total, Tether is issued on Bitcoin blockchains (both Omni and Liquid), Ethereum, EOS, and Tron.

Tether tokens are issued by Tether Limited, whose CEO also manages the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange. Tether previously stated that Tether currencies are 100% secured by Tether reserves, but after Tether lawyers noted in 2019 that Tether was only 74% secured, i.e. had only a partial reserve, Tether noted that the definition of full collateral includes loans for affiliated companies.
